Sunfires were built in Lordstown, OhioOriginally the convertible was only in the SE trim level until the 1999 model year where it became only available in the GT trim. The convertible was discontinued after the year 2000.
The Quad 4 was a 2,260.5 cc (2.2605 L; 137.94 cu in) DOHC inline 4-cylinder produced by General Motors Oldsmobile division.

The Quad 4 name is derived from the engines four valve, four cylinder layout. The engine was a modern design for its time, using a cast-iron block and an aluminum head, and it produced more horsepower than its foreign and domestic competition[citation needed]. Even though belts were more popular for this purpose on OHC engines at the time, much more reliable chains were used to time the camshafts to the crankshaft, which came in handy because of the interference design of the engine. The water pump is also driven by the timing chain. It is interesting to note that the Quad 4 was the first wholly domestic regular production DOHC four cylinder engine designed and built by GM
